John 15:8 NKJV
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
One of the pictures that come to mind when I hear the word abundance is one of a harvest, a bountiful harvest. An abundant life is a life of fruitfulness. Jesus, who came to give us abundant life, said that God the Father is glorified by us bearing much fruit. An abundant harvest glorifies God because he is the God of abundance.
But what does it mean to be fruitful?
There are several scriptures that speak about fruitfulness in different areas of our lives.
The Fruit of Souls
Matthew 28: 19-20
19 Go [c]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [d]Amen.
The Fruit of The Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
The Fruit of Good Works
Colossians 1:10-11 NKJV
10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and long-suffering with joy;
The Fruit of Our Lips
Hebrews 13:15-1 NKJV
15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, [a]giving thanks to His name. 16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices, God is well pleased.
I would encourage you to do a study on each of these scriptures to get a more in-depth understanding of fruitfulness.
Reflections.
What is your favourite fruit, and why is it your favourite?
In which of the areas mentioned above are you struggling to show forth fruit? Why?
Do you believe it is possible to be fruitful in all the above areas? What must you do to attain that level of fruitfulness? Are you willing to take the journey?
