Influence and Impact: Light and Good Works

Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
We do not do to become, but rather we do because we are. Good works don’t get us saved and in God’s good books. As the Bible tells us, salvation is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by works, lest any should boast. But now that we are saved by faith and have received a new nature, then we should live a life evident of good works which are stemming from the new nature that we have received.
It is important for us to recognize as believers that Jesus did good deeds everywhere that he went because it was his nature. We are his disciples and our lives and nature are patterned after him remember he said that greater works than his shall we do. Titus 3:8 tells us that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. We are also to show ourselves to be a pattern of good works (Titus 2:7) meaning good works should be consistent in our lives and not scattered events that we do over Christmas and Easter.
Our good works should be seen by men, our good works will have an impact on those who see them, our good works can change lives.
Someone said that people may not remember what you said, but they will always remember what you did for them. Our good works are for the edification of others and not for the glorification of self and creating the impression that we are better than others.
James tells us that faith without works is dead, thus , because we have faith in Christ then the works we do in life confirm our faith.
Remember, though we are saved by faith, we will be rewarded according to our works.
Reflection:
What individual has touched your life by a good deed/ good deeds they have done?
What are examples of good deeds that others have commended you for?
Do you believe good works should be the hallmark of every believer’s life? Why?
