Half a Million Kenyans Starving in Turkana County

Nearly 500,000 Kenyans are at brink of starvation in Turkana County. As a result of prolonged drought and climate change. With fears that the numbers might go up further if no immediate action is taken. The community which heavily relies on livestock for their livelihoods. Have suffered a huge blow as close to nine million livestock’s in drought stricken areas have died as a result of the drought.

As part of the response to the ongoing drought we have embarked on the distribution of relief supplies to 3.5 million Kenyans,” President William Ruto stated during his address to the 13th Parliament. The relief food will be distributed to Kenyans affected in 23 arid and semi-arid areas. The president also stated that the solution to combat drought lies on mitigating the impact of climate change.

The ultimate solution to the drought cycle in our country is mitigation to climate change and its adverse effects. We must act urgently to keep the global heating levels below 1.5% degrees centigrade. Help those in need, promote the use of renewable energy and thus end the addiction to fossil fuels,” President Ruto.
