After nearly two years of hostilities and instability the Ethiopian government and regional forces from Tigray, yesterday the 2nd of November ceased fire. The diplomatic breakthrough spearheaded by the African Union special envoy; has been an answered pray for the millions of displaced citizens.
Ethiopians and the African continent at large have hope that this would be a permanent cessation. As the Ethiopian government officials and representatives of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), signed up to a disarmament plan and the restoration of crucial services, including aid supplies.
According to the World Health Organization, close to 90% of people in northern Tigray region are dire need of food aid. A draft text of the agreement, states that Tigray forces will be disarmed, starting with “light weapons” within 30 days of Wednesday’s signing, and Ethiopian federal security forces will take full control of “all federal facilities, installations, and major infrastructure such as airports and highways within the Tigray region.”
