With only 46 days left to the August polls, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has embarked on the training of security officers on how to tackle elections issues or electoral violence.
“They are key when it comes to elections. They are the ones who provide security and we felt that they need to have that requisite knowledge on how to handle elections issues. Offences in terms of hate speech, electoral offences and process of investigation.” NCIC Deputy Director James Ochola Akello said in the forum held in Muranga.
The NCIC is traversing the country holding public baraza and forums with different stakeholders and community groups on countering electoral violence and political intolerance. The first step of security starts with you, “At the end of the day the goals are simple; safety and security,” Jodi Rell.
The move comes barely a month since the commission launched and presented the Conflict Hotspot Mapping Report.
