The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) welcomed a new director Mr. Amin Mohammed following the appointment by His Excellency Hon. William Ruto. Mr. Amin emerged overall after beating 9 other shortlisted candidates to secure the position to replace George Kinoti who tendered his resignation.
In line with this change, the President further disbanded DCI Special Service Unit (SSU), with immediate effect citing cases of extrajudicial killings in the country as one of the key concerns that informed the decision.
“Matters of security were ruined. Police officers changed and started killing Kenyans as opposed to protecting them. We have decided to disband the Special Service Unit of the police. That was killing citizens without due course. That’s the history we want to forget,” said President Ruto who was speaking in a church forum, Sunday.
While taking up his new role Mr. Amin Mohammed reassured Kenyans that he will lead with professionalism and ensure justice for all. “I promise my fellow Kenyans that I will run the DCI in the most professional manner possible. I will be firm and fair in executing my duties while observing the rule of law, knowing that our Constitution is the Supreme law of the land,” he stated.
