Devotion: If you had the guarantee that you cannot fail, what would you do for God?

Exodus 4:10

10 Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”

When God calls Moses to send him back to Egypt to set the Israelites free, Moses has plenty of personal concerns and excuses why he is not the right man for the job. He can’t speak eloquently, what if they do not believe him, who will he say has sent him? Don’t we all find ourselves in that same position from time to time? Even Gideon had concerns and excuses, and this happens because we look at our ability, and it does not match up to the assignment God is calling us to do.

It’s almost like we are trying to inform God of something He does not know, forgetting that He is the one who created us, and He knows the beginning to the end. I love the answer that God gives to Moses.

Exodus 4:11

11 The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

What are your personal concerns and excuses why you cannot say yes to what God is calling you to do? Like Moses, are you concerned that you cannot speak eloquently? Or maybe like Gideon, you are looking at your family line and since you don’t see anything great then you disqualify yourself? Is it lack of finances and resources? Or perhaps your concern is that you have not been to bible school, and thus you do not know much of the bible?

The bible says that it is not by might nor by power but by my Spirit, declares the Lord. When the Lord calls you, then He will equip you to be able to perform the very thing He has called you to do. He will ensure that you have the right resources and the right connections to get the job done if only you will say yes and walk out in faith and obedience.

Reflections

  • If you had the guarantee that you cannot fail, what would you do for God?
  • What excuse is giving you the permission not to do what God asks of you?
  • What’s the real fear behind the excuse?
