All Saints Provost Sammy Wainaina transitions to a new role in the Anglican Communion Office in London

All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi has announced leadership transition of Canon Dr. Sammy Wainaina to a new role of Advisor on Anglican Community Affairs in London. Prof Joseph Galgalo, Assistant Bishop of the Cathedral announced that Dr. Wainaina will leave at the end of June 2023 after serving a three-months notice.

“By mutual agreement and the Archbishop’s blessing, the provost accepted the offer. The position would be in the office of the Anglican communion (ACO) and he will be based in London.

“It is a joy that one of our own has been recognized and given such high honor to a high office and we are in Godly pride, proud of him,” Galgalo told the congregation on Sunday 26th March 2023.

Canon Sammy Wainaina has been outspoken on national matters such as governance, integrity, leadership and justice.

The church released a statement on social media that said: “We celebrate the Ministry of the outgoing Provost of the All Saints’ Cathedral, Nairobi Very Rev. Canon Dr. Sammy Wainaina for the past 10 years. His selfless service has kept the Cathedral and its congregation united, inspired growth, and fostered fellowship in the Body of Christ. As he prepares to transition into his next ministry, we proclaim blessings and God’s Grace upon him.

“In his thirteen years of service, the Provost leaves behind a legacy of strong leadership, a robust pulpit ministry and steadfast discipleship. Thank you for your dedicated leadership in serving the All Saints’ Cathedral family and Congratulations on your new role.”

Rev. Wainaina and his wife being dedicated for the new role in London

Dr. Wainaina has served as vicar, archdeacon, assistant provost and Provost of All Saints since joining in December 2013.

He was ordained at the Nakuru Diocese in 1996 and has served in the church for the past 25 years.

Dr. Wainaina holds a Diploma in Divinity from St. Paul’s Theological College in Kapsabet and bachelor’s degree in divinity from St. Paul’s University Limuru.He has a Master of Science degree in Education and Training for Development from the University of Reading in England.

He also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Dr. Wainaina got married to Beatrice Waithira in 1997 and together they have three children.
