Acts 2:42 NKJV
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
The Church in Acts begun on the day of Pentecost by the preaching of a powerful message by Peter. After they were filled with the Holy Spirit and begun to speak in other tongues, the people were stirred, and they gathered to see what was going on; it was at this point that Peter took the opportunity to preach.
But what did he preach?
He preached Jesus, remember Jesus said he is the way, the truth, and the life. A Church that does not preach Jesus is a church that is not preaching the truth.
What I love about what Peter preached is that the message so convicted the people, that they asked what they must do, and they were asked to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to be baptized. 3000 people were added to their number that day. These 3000 continued daily in the Apostle’s doctrine, meaning the Apostles did as Jesus directed them to do. They were to teach everything that Jesus taught them to do, resulting in a new way of life.
As a result, the lives of these people were changed. They became new people, they became like Christ to the point of being called Christians.
The preaching of Christ and him crucified and resurrected and glorified plus the evidence of changed lives must be present in the church of Jesus Christ.
Reflections.
Are you keen on the messages preached in the church you fellowship at? Do they preach Christ?
How has your life changed since you became part of the church, are you the same or more like Christ?
In what way have you become more like Christ?
