Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Paul earnestly warns us not to conform to this world but if we are honest, we do conform in various areas of our life from time to time. Are there any consequences when we conform?
One of the first verses that jumps out when I think of that is
1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
When we conform to the patterns of this world then it means that we love the world and as the verse says then the love of the father is not in us.
When we truly love God then the way we live our lives will be demonstrative of that Love. The love of God and the love of the patterns of this world cannot have the same dwelling there must be a difference. We demonstrate our love for God not by shouting about it, posting on social media about it or even singing about it. We demonstrate our love for God by obeying His commands and He says
2 Corinthians 6:17 (AMP)
17 “So come out from among unbelievers and be separate,” says the Lord,
“And do not touch what is unclean; And I will graciously receive you and welcome you [with favor],
That tells me that if I chose the road of conforming to the world then God will reject me and He will withdraw his favor from my life. That is a huge price to pay.
Someone told me that when the Christians are salty then the world will be thirsty for Godly things. Conforming to the world means that we lose our saltiness; we no longer became effective in the service of God. Conforming makes us hypocrites preaching water while we drink wine. We end up having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: 2 Timothy 3:5.
Conforming to the patters of this world opens up a door for the enemy to come in and have influence because what we are really doing is living life according to his principles and as we know, what a man sows that he reaps.
Do not Conform, the price we pay for conforming to this world is too expensive!
