Proverbs 30:26
26 The [f]rock badgers are a feeble folk, Yet they make their homes in the crags;
The rock badger is a small animal that does not have any means of protecting itself apart from speed. This tiny animal is exposed to all sorts of attack and danger. The wisdom of the rock badger is that it understands it weaknesses, and thus it makes it home in the crags or the rugged cliffs of a rock. This reminds us of the scripture:
Psalm 18:2 NKJV
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my [a]strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the [b]horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Throughout the book of Psalms, we find many references to God as our rock and refuge.
The folly of many today is to think and believe that they are self-sufficient. We live in a generation where self has been elevated that we fail to recognize that we are weak and without God then there is no hope for us.
When David was running towards Goliath with a stone and sling he was not depending on his strength for he recognized that on his own he was weak, and he stood no chance. This is what he told Goliath:
“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
Like the rock badger that makes his home in the clefts of the rock, David made his home in God as his rock.
It is this same David who references God as his rock in the psalms, and it is of David that God said that he is a man after God’s own heart.
It is only God who can shelter us from our enemy, we should submit to him and depend on him to be our shield.
Amen! Good lesson!
