It is a season of political campaigns and elections across the African Continent. Aside from Kenya, Nigerians are also set to make a decision on their leadership on the 25th of February 2023, and in preparations for the elections, the two leading parties All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)have been receiving pressure from southeast leaders calling upon the parties to pick their presidential aspirants from the area. If so this will be the first time the region would have produced a candidate in the history of the nation. Nigeria has been using the principle of zoning since 1993 in picking a candidate for the presidential race.
Admits the political tension in the country, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested a Presidential Aspirant Rochas Okorocha from APC party. The EFCC officers whisked the embattled former governor away from his residence on Tuesday after a 7-hour siege. The EFCC had filed a 17-count criminal charge against the presidential hopeful Okorocha, bordering on diversion of public funds and properties to the tune of N2.9 billion.
The former governor is seeking to vie for the presidency under the APC party.
Back in Kenya, the National Integrity Alliance (NIA) early this week issued a red card to various political aspirants facing integrity issues to be barred from contesting any seat in the forthcoming general elections.
With the renewed integrity campaign, all eyes are now on the anti-graft agencies to see if they will act on the listed individuals.
