The initiative by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) to launch the Afia Njema Programme is set to focus on enhancing the management of Non-Communicable Diseases through public awareness, testing, and curative services across the country.
“We will use our pulpits to pass the message of awareness, and work with the Ministry of Health Kenya so that the standards of treatment for people with Non-Communicable Diseases are raised and that they are harmonized and standardized.” NCCK General Secretary, Rev. Chris Kinyanjui.
According to the CS, the initiative intends to transform the Non-Communicable Diseases(NCDs) prevention and control landscape in Kenya as well as bring better and affordable health care services closer to the citizens.

According to Canon Kinyanjui, a lot of the people, church leaders and members in their congregations are not aware whether they have an NCD or they don’t, hence, the initiative will create awareness across the country.
