The Power of Choice: Spiritual Over Carnal

Matthew 6:33 NKJV
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Though we are spiritual beings, we live and experience life in the physical because we have a body that lives in the physical realm. For this reason, it is so easy to think that the spiritual does not exist and all that is there is the physical. The physical realm is temporary while the spiritual realm is eternal, that’s the other important issue that many overlook.
With that in mind, Jesus tells us to set our priorities right. We should seek after his kingdom first, the spiritual and when we do, the physical will be added unto us. That may seem pretty easy, but it is not because the spiritual tends to be invisible, and we must pursue it in faith.
The physical has its demands, what we shall eat, what we shall wear, what we shall drink. All these have to do with the body, his to sustain it and keep it comfortable and feeling good. The problem with entertaining the needs of the body is that it often leads to sin because it moves from needs to gratifying the flesh and pursuing pleasure.
Paul urges us to beat this flesh daily and bring it to subjection so that it is not the one that drives us, rather we should be led by the spirit.
We should seek the kingdom of God first. We are told that righteousness which is right standing with God, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, that’s the kingdom of God.
The spiritual puts eternity first and seeks to build the spirit and deepen our relationship with God.
As Paul said, all things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial. When we make choices, we should choose what is beneficial to our spiritual life first.
