PSALMS 86:11-12
“Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever.”
No one will argue the importance of teachers in the lives of children. They pour into the children of a nation, teaching the basics necessary to become an adult. Most families emphasize education. Often we diminish the importance of learning Scripture. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, your heart needs to plead, “Teach Me Your Way Lord.
Learn from God
A recurring theme in the book of Psalms is “Teach me your way Lord.” The Psalmist signaled to God that they wanted to learn God’s lessons. The Psalmist asks God to teach him how to walk in truth and glorify His name. David was famous for having this heart. He wanted to learn from God and grow closer to Him. We need to replicate this model in our lives and churches. In a world where everyone wants to be an expert, we need more disciples begging God to teach them His ways.
A Heart United
The Psalmist is submitting under His Lord, wanting to transform his life. He wants his heart united with the Almighty and live a life that glorifies Him. Is that desire evident in you? You may want to learn the Bible and even take an interest in evangelism and discipleship, but do you long to be united with Jesus on the deepest level? That is the heart of this writer.
Teach Me Your Way Lord
What evidence will you see when you manifest the heart that this Psalmist does? You have a hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matt 5:6). There is a spring of gratefulness for what God has done for you that gushes forth out of your mouth. Finally, you glorify God in your words and deeds. Cry out to Jesus and ask Him to teach you His ways?
