God has given us a wonderful promise concerning temptation that we need to always remember. First, no temptation is unique to us, others have gone through it and still others after us will also go through it. Secondly, when we are in the midst of temptation, we must remember that God remains faithful. He promises not to allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. He knows our capacity and that is reassuring, meaning whatever temptation comes your way, God knows you have the capacity to bear it. But even with that, God ensures that every temptation that comes your way has an exit just for you so that you can endure it.

However just because God provides an exit for you does not mean he will cause you to take it. We have been empowered to act, but we must decide to act when faced with temptation.

Joseph could easily have said that he was cornered, and he had no option, how could he avoid the advances of his master’s wife? Well, we know the story, Joseph did not give excuses, he took off and this action landed him in prison, but he overcame the temptation.

David on the other hand pursued the temptation when he saw Bathsheba bathing. He inquired about her and commanded her to be brought to him.

The truth is, we have specific areas where we are tempted, and we have particular sins we tend to fall for. With that knowledge, what battle plans have you come up with? As much as we pray and ask the Lord not to lead us into temptation, do we lead ourselves into temptation like David did?

This is what Job said;

Job 31:1NIV

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.

This was his strategy and plan, he set boundaries because he knew the areas where he was easily tempted.

Once you have a strategy, remember to commit your plans to God and as the bible says, he will establish them. A strategy without God’s leading and empowerment will not be sufficient. Lastly, act on your plans, live within the boundaries of your plans because having a plan without acting on it means you will indulge in the temptation and sin.

Do not allow temptations to just spring up on you, be prepared, determine what you must do even when you feel cornered.

If you knew that a thief would break in through the window, you would reinforce the window to protect yourself. You know the area where the enemy mostly tempts you, so it’s not a surprise, what’s your plan? Remember, God always has a way out for you in every temptation. ACT.
