Ephesians 6:13-18
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm…_ (Verse 13)
Yesterday, we were taught that the tactic of the enemy in fighting the believer is to cause him/her to fall from his secure position. And that the believers’ responsibility is to strive to remain standing no matter what. Today, from our passage, we see that the way the Christian stands is by putting on his/her war regalia – the whole armour of God. Notice that it says in our text the whole armour, not part of it but the whole of it. Of course, Paul is writing here using the imagery of the Roman soldiers’ military fatigues.
He exhorts us then to be lovers and pursues of truth by putting on the belt of truth. We are also called to guard our hearts by putting on the breastplate of righteousness. Our feet must be swift to go while we wear the readiness of the Gospel. To fend off all the flaming arrows from the enemy, we are to raise the shield of faith. And for offense, we are to take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Our minds must be guarded with the helmet of salvation. Finally, all these must be fitted together with prayer. These form the full armour of God, and each of us must put them on so that we would be able to stand in the day of trouble.
Reflections
1. Which part of the armour of God is difficult for you to put on?
2. How will your life change in view of today’s devotion?
