Mark 10:42-44
42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.
Once we get born again and become part of God’s kingdom, we need a mind shift. We can no longer think the way the world thinks because God’s kingdom operates on principles that are so different from what the world operates on. As God says, His ways are higher than our ways.
In God’s kingdom, love is the foundation upon which everything is built on.
In this kingdom, it is more blessed to give than receive. In this kingdom, you have to lose your life to gain it. Similarly, the greatest in this kingdom is the servant of all.
Everyone in God’s kingdom is called to serve others, in fact, we are to consider others as better than ourselves, and we are to look out for the good of others. This is so different from how the world operates. In the world, the servant is demeaned and looked down upon. The servant is the least and not the greatest. No one wants to serve, instead they want to be served to show how great they are.
Just as the different parts of the body serve each other and in so doing the body functions well, so must we function in God’s kingdom. Each has been given a gift for the sole purpose of serving others.
Remember, the words we are all looking forward to hearing from Jesus are the words “Welcome home thou good and faithful SERVANT.”
Reflections.
What is your understanding and attitude towards serving?
Are you quick to serve, or do you expect to be served?
What gift has God given you for the purpose of serving others, and are you using it for this purpose?
