Genesis 39:20-21 NKJV
Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison. But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
It’s one thing to be put into prison for doing the wrong thing, but to be thrown in there for doing the right thing, now that’s a tragedy. Several people in the bible suffered that fate, but the most famous is Joseph. After refusing advances from his master’s wife, Joseph is thrown into prison after being falsely accused of attempted rape.
Portiphar put Joseph into prison to punish him, but God allowed him to be put there to promote him. God allowed Joseph to be thrown into prison to prepare him for the next level of his life.
Prison was a hard place for Joseph. Psalms 105:18 tells us that his feet were laid in irons. But even with all that, God was with Joseph. It is also important to note that Joseph maintained a good attitude, and he did not allow bitterness to rule over his heart. Even in prison, just like in Portiphas house, all was left under his care. Joseph was faithful to all that was left under his care. At the appointed time, God promoted him to the palace and this happened because Joseph had a heart to help others. After he told Pharaoh his dream and its meaning, he also proposed a solution.
What may seem like a prison and problem, may end up being Gods school to get you ready for the promotion he promised. Keep a good attitude and always remember that God is with you.
Reflections.
- Have you ever been to or visited a prison? What was your impression?
- When have you found yourself in trouble for doing the right thing?
- Do you trust God and maintain a good attitude when in trouble for doing the right thing, or do you complain?
