And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
Love is a subject that man has talked about for generations. Songs have been and are still being sung about it. Books have been written and are still being written about love, and so are movies. The world in its lost and degenerate state has come up with its many definitions of love.
If we are to love our neighbour as we love ourselves, then we must understand what love really is from the perspective of God. God does not just love, God is love. How he loves is how we ought to love and anything else outside of that is not love, no matter what the world says.
1 Corinthians 13 breaks down for us what love truly is from God’s perspective. Love is not just saying or doing, the most important thing is the attitude of the heart from which the love is coming from. Feeding the poor is a good thing, and it may look like a demonstration of love, but we can do that and still have no love for the people we are doing it for. It can be an empty selfish activity to make us look good, and the bible says that it profits us nothing.
It is said that love is a verb, it is a doing word, meaning it should not just be said, it should also be seen. This is true but to add to that and most significant, it must come from a heart that is connected to God’s heart because He is love. A heart that is made right by being connected to God will bring out pure love, the God kind of love.
