Proverbs 6:6-8 NKJV
Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
Think about this, if ants have no captain, overseer or ruler then they must serve and care for one another for them to be able to accomplish the great things they do.
Philippians 2:4 NKJV
4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
God expects the same of us. We are called not to look out only for our own interests but also to look out for the interests of others. If each ant looked out only for their own interest like many of us do, I do not think the ants would be able to survive. They find their strength in their numbers and team work.
Just like our bodies have different parts and each part serves the other parts and hence the body is able to function, so should we because we are the body of Christ. Think about this, when one part of the body does not function as it should, we consider this to be a disability to the body, what about the body of Christ where some members are not functioning in their service to the rest of the body?
God has equipped us through the gifts of the Holy Spirit to ensure that we are able to serve one another. May we learn from the ants to care and serve one another as the body of Christ. Jesus said that by this will men know that we are his disciples, if we have love for one another.
Reflections
Who are you serving and caring for?
Do you connect with people because of what you can get from them or because you have something you can offer them?
What would happen if the Church operated like the ants?
