KRA: We are ready to support the new government

Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General Githii Mburu has said that they are ready as the KRA to do their best to support the new government to achieve the aspirations of the Kenyan people.

The Commissioner General called on all Kenyans to pay taxes as KRA work on ways to engage them in a friendlier manner with a lot of dialogue.

“We are committed to collecting all the revenues that are available within our economy to support our development agenda.

We can all do better to support our country if everybody pays what they owe – not a shilling more not a shilling less – we are going to do what is required of us as Kenyans in support of our country.”

The Authority’s commitment comes after the President William Ruto in his inauguration speech said his administration will make KRA more professional, efficient, responsive and people friendly while urging taxpayers to respond by undertaking their patriotic duty and pay taxes.

“Our immediate agenda is to create a favourable business and enterprise environment, decriminalize livelihoods and support people in the informal sector to organize themselves into stable, viable and creditworthy business entities,” said President Ruto, noting that that was the essence of the bottom-up economic model, which creates a path for traders and entrepreneurs to build linkages, experience safety, and enjoy security.

“We will work with county governments to create frameworks that provide secure trading places in our cities and towns,” President Ruto

In addressing the cost of living, the President said the financial inclusion and access to credit are critical in addressing the fundamental factors of the high cost of living, job creation and people’s well-being.

“We shall take measures to drive down the cost of credit. Our starting point is to shift the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) framework from its current practice of arbitrary, punitive and all or nothing blacklisting of borrowers,” President William Ruto.
