Romans 8:37-39 NKJV
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
There is no force more powerful on the face of this earth than love. Human beings were made to give and receive love because our heavenly father is love.
In our Christian walk, we sometimes struggle because we doubt God’s love for us. I am sure you have at one point wondered if God really loves you. A common question we many times ask is, “If God really loves me, why then does he allow so many bad things to happen to me?” In our limitations we cannot comprehend this love of God and that may stem from the fact that as humans we tend to love conditionally.
Our key verse tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus. How does that work, and how is that even possible?
Because we fall in love, and we fall out of love, then we tend to look at our relationship with God from that perspective. In the moments when we are weak, and we fall into sin, we assume that God does not love us any more, we believe he has rejected us, and he wants nothing more to do with us. This is sometimes enhanced when our brothers and sisters in the faith reject us once what we have done is made public. They push us away and speak behind our backs and since they represent God, we assume God feels the same way.
God’s love is never failing, meaning it can never fail. Lamentations 3:22 tells us that the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, and his mercies never come to an end they are new every morning, great is His faithfulness.
One of the things we must learn never to do as believers is to interpret God’s love by what we have or by the seasons we are going through. When God says he loves us, he means what he says. He sees the whole picture and as the good father that he is, he knows what is best for his children. Think about Joseph and what he went through. God shows him a great dream about his future, and yet, his life goes to the dungeons. Joseph held on to God and to his dreams, even in the moments when it looked like God did not love him and had forgotten him. In the end, all things worked together for good for Joseph.
God loves you, and he would never do anything to harm and destroy you. Trust him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
