Ephesians 6:17 AMP
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
The helmet of salvation was a critical piece of the Roman soldier’s armor. There was no way he would go out into battle without it. It was made of leather shrouded in metal, and it was strong enough to protect the head against a crushing blow. One blow to the head would be very detrimental to a soldier with no helmet. It would bring his system down because the brain in the head runs the whole body.
In the same way, as believers, we need the helmet of salvation to protect our heads from the blows of the enemy. Our thoughts and imaginations must be shielded and protected because this is the realm that the enemy attacks with all manner of temptations.
If you can change the way a man thinks, then you will change his life!
Proverbs 23:7 As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he….
The enemy knows that if he can attack your thoughts, then your actions will change according to your thoughts. Eventually, your actions become the habits that drive you into your destiny.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Once we are born again, the bible encourages us to change the way we think and to be consistently renewed in our mind so that we may be able to prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
You and I may not have much say about what happens around us, but we can control what we allow our thoughts to dwell on because as someone once said; “You cannot stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can stop it from building a nest on your head!”
Keep your helmet on, your life depends on it!
Reflections
- When you look back at your thought process, do you generally think in the positive seeing possibilities, or in the negative seeing failures and roadblocks?
- How has that affected your life?
- What do you need to do to keep on the helmet of salvation and ensure that your mind is continuously renewed?
