Ephesians 6:14–15 AMP
14 So stand firm and hold your ground, having [b]tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), 15 and having [c]strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news].
Today, soldiers put on sturdy boots as footwear, and they can walk in the most extreme weather conditions. Back in the day, the Roman soldier had some form of sandal with straps, and this was a crucial part of their armor. These sandals provided protection because sometimes on the battlefield, the enemy would place sharp sticks in the ground at an angle, and if you stepped on them with no sandals, your feet would be cut and even end up with an infection.
Have you shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace? Are you ready to go?
I remember being young when we had a trip the next day. Sometimes we were so excited that we would sleep fully dressed with our shoes on, ready to move once it was morning. We did not want to waste any time.
How ready are you to move and share this gospel of peace with those in need? Are you available, or are you always making excuses?
Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
Same thing, feet and the gospel of peace. As believers, we should always be ready to move with this good news because the mandate we have is to go into the world and preach this gospel to all nations to make disciples of Jesus.
The same thing is repeated in
Romans 10:14-15
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Do you have the right footwear?
Reflective Thoughts.
- When was the last time you shared the good news with someone?
- What’s your greatest fear when it comes to sharing the good news with strangers?
- How will you overcome this fear? Share the gospel of peace with someone today!
