Hebrews 11:9-10 NKJV
By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Faith gives us a vision of what the natural eyes cannot see. The bible says that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. As one writer put it, “Faith sees the invisible, knows the unknowable and does the impossible.”
By faith, Abraham saw a city which has foundations whose builder is God.
By faith Abraham and his wife Sarah saw themselves as parents to a great generation as many as the stars in the sky and the sand on the shore. In the natural they were barren and childless, but by faith they saw the impossible as their new reality because God had said so.
For you and I to fortify our faith, we must never lose the vision of what God has spoken in his word because remember, faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God.
God told Joshua to always keep the book of the law before him, to read it, speak it, meditate on it day and night and to do all that it says. In essence, keep the vision that you see by faith which comes by this word of God before you always.
What you see, vision, determines what you do and where you go. A vision will demand that you set priorities, and you develop disciplines. That is why the Bible says that without a vision the people perish. Why? Because then, they lack direction and disciplines. They are blind.
Though we live in the physical world, we know that there is a spiritual world that is invisible to the naked eye. We know that we are not of this world; thus we must live our life in a manner that reflects that knowledge. We must not allow ourselves to be bogged down and limited with the natural, which we know is perishing. Our eyes must be on the spiritual which is eternal and this vision then should determine how we live our lives every day.
