Matthew 6:26-27 NIV
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?
Jesus asks a simple yet thought-provoking question. If the birds don’t sow and reap and yet, God ensures that they have all that they need, how much more will he provide for us because we are worth more than the birds?
We are the only creatures that God made in his image and in his likeness. To understand our worth to God, we need to look at the price tag paid for our salvation. God, the creator of heaven and earth, the one who created everything out of nothing, loved us so much that he sent his only-begotten son to die for us. God sent heaven’s best to purchase our redemption. That is how much we are worth to him.
Romans 8:32 NIV
32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Think about it, why would God give us his very best in Jesus Christ so that we may have life and life more abundantly, only for him to then again fail to give us the very things that we need to sustain this life? As Paul says, if God did not spare his son because he wanted us saved and in a relationship with him, won’t he also give us everything that we need? Our problem is that we put things before God, when the material things come we tend to push God to the side and focus on things, forgetting that our relationship with him is more important than the things. Our relationship with him is eternal, while all these things we run after are temporal.
Jesus was not forced to give his life for us. He says he willingly lays down his life for the sheep. That is what we are worth to him.
