Discerning Deception: The Humanistic Gospel

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
The true and authentic Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ makes much of Jesus. It focuses on Jesus and makes Him the center of everything. As revealed in our text today, the believer must count him/herself dead to self and alive in Christ. This, therefore, means that once one becomes a believer, then they begin a lifetime of making much of Christ. It is His will, His desires, His purpose that become our ultimate pursuit. Our own wills and desires become only secondary to His.
The humanistic Gospel, on the other hand, makes much of man. Much of this teaching is about man and his desires. It is about attaining one’s highest potential without a consideration of whether that is what God has planned for someone. It seeks for the pursuit of the best life now. It talks less of man’s sinfulness and his need for repentance and only props up the individual. At the end of the day, it proves to be a pagan religion clothed in trite Christian phrases.
