One of the narratives that has been pushed for a long time is that the church should stay away from politics. Nothing could be further from the truth. The church is not the building or the clergy, the church’s is the body of believers. Jesus called us the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Salt is no good if it stays in the salt shaker. Its effectiveness is felt when it is mixed with the food. That salt does not lose its saltiness, rather, the food acquires the flavour of the salt. Salt is also used as a preservative; hence it slows down decay.

They say that politics is a dirty game, that also is a false narrative. Politics in itself is not dirty, it is the participants who are dirty that make it dirty. The reason there is decay in politics is that there is hardly any slat in it.

As the slat of the earth and the light of the world, you and I are called to go into the world and influence it to godliness. How then can we influence this nation if we do not participate in the voting? Our saltiness and our light must be felt in the ballot. We cannot sit and pray and then complain and cry out for better leaders if we do not take the opportunity to vote in a good leader or better yet present ourselves for positions of leadership because we are the light. Evil reigns when good people say and do nothing.

You and I have a voice through our vote, and it is our responsibility to speak loudly using that vote. Praying is good, and we have faith that God will give us good leaders, but faith without works is dead. After we have prayed, we must arise bright and early on election day and head on to the polls to vote, believing that God has heard us and that he will answer our prayer.
