Characters Around the Cradle: No Ordinary Child

Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
Almost anyone that is asked will say that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Unfortunately, the festivities, excesses, and indulgences that go with the season veil the truth of who Jesus really is. His birth was prophesied many years before He came into the scene. Notice Isaiah’s prophecy – a child is born, a son is given. These words are important to consider because although the child is born in a specific time period, the Son has existed in all eternity. This is no ordinary child, and we do well to remember that even as we celebrate Christmas.
Have yourself a very merry Christmas!
Reflections
1. How will you celebrate Christmas today to show that the child we are celebrating was no ordinary child?
