Acts 9:5 AMP
And Saul said, “Who are You, Lord?” And He answered, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, 6 now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Zeal without wisdom is a dangerous thing. I have seen young men and women who had such a zeal to serve God, but they lacked wisdom. They were not wise enough to wait for instructions on what to do, where to do it and how to do it. In their zeal they became proud and thought they are better than others, even those who had gone before them.
We know Paul as a great Apostle, but when he got converted, he was told to go to the city and wait to be given instructions on what to do. He was a man of great means and authority and God had a great call for his life, but he had to wait for instructions on what to do next.
God revealed to Ananias his plan for Saul when he sent him to pray for him.
Acts 9:15-16 AMP
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is a [deliberately] chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; 16 for I will make clear to him how much he must suffer and endure for My name’s sake.”
As much as God was calling Paul to minister to the gentiles, he had to wait for about three years before this materialized. He was patient and humble enough to go through training. In these 3 years he learned directly from the Lord.
God’s assignments and calling must be executed in God’s time and in his way; otherwise you will become frustrated like Moses was when he first tried to deliver the children of Israel, and he was banished from Egypt for killing an Egyptian.
Yes, God has celled you, and you have the zeal to serve him, but wait. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. When you move at his direction and instruction, then you are assured that though the journey may be hard, you will walk in victory.
Reflections
Why is it important to wait for God’s timing and instructions?
Moses had to wait for 40 years before God sent him back to Egypt, why do you think this was so?
What are other examples in the Bible of people that god called, yet they had to wait before the call was actually activated?
