John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The Christian faith is accused of religious arrogance because of the exclusive claim that we make, that Jesus is the only way to God. In our age of false tolerance and political correctness, this claim is offensive to some. How can all those who believe and worship differently be wrong. Surely, there can’t be only one way. So goes the arguments. However, as one Christian apologist would put it, “People should not question why there is only one way to God. Rather, they should marvel that we have a way to God!”
What we sometimes forget is that God is holy and cannot co-exist with sin. Man, on the other hand, is sinful. How then can a sinful man approach a holy God without being struck dead? Only the Gospel provides a solution to this conundrum. That the second person of the Godhead, eternally perfect, became man and subjected Himself to the limitations of humanity and the law. Remaining sinless, He was crucified not because of anything that He had done but as a sacrificial lamb. On the third day, He rose from the dead, signifying that His sacrifice was accepted before God. Now, everyone who believes in Jesus has their sins atoned for and is clothed with His righteousness. Because only the righteous shall enter the Kingdom of God, no man can enter unless he/she enters through the atoning blood of Christ. This is not an arrogant statement, it is good news. And anyone who chooses to believe it will be saved and will have access to God. Praise the Lord!
Reflections
1. Are you pursuaded that Jesus is the only way to God?
2. If so, do you grieve over those who have not yet accepted Him? And have you shared the Gospel with them?
