Matthew 2:1-2,7-12
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him…”
The magi, or wise men, from the East, saw a star and figured from their practice that it represented a mighty king that was born. Thus, they came seeking Him first in Jerusalem since it was the capital of Israel’s life and worship. Their aim was to worship Him even as expressed to King Herod. Eventually, they were led to the child, and they joyously worshipped him and lavished him with gifts. They serve as an example to us on what it means to seek the King and worship Him.
This Christmas, we must seek above everything else to encounter and experience Christ. The Bible does promise that those who seek Him with their whole heart will find Him. The Magi spared nothing in their pursuit of the baby that was born king, and we must, likewise, spare nothing until our lives become saturated with the presence of Christ. Like the Magi, our seeking the King should be primarily so that we can worship Him. Yes, we have needs that we need taken care of, and He does provide for all of our needs according to His riches in glory, but we must of priority seek to worship Him. Whatever you do this Christmas, ensure that it all leads to the worship of Jesus, the Christ.
