Raphael Tuju responds to Chebukati

In a press briefing Sunday, Raphael Tuju who is the Executive Director of Azimio la Umoja Alliance, in reply to Chebukati’s affidavit that claimed that he made him an offer to moderate the presidential election results. Tuju has admitted that he indeed met with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati in an effort to raise concerns that had been brought to his attention with regard to the uploading of Form 34As.

“I never made any offers to Mr Chebukati or any of his Commissioners. I want Prof. Guliye and Molu, Commissioners of the IEBC to explain to Kenyans and the world why they came to my house and what their intention was,” Tuju said.

Tuju explained that he was in the company of Senator Amos Wako and the room had 10 more other people.

“I received intelligence from one of the IEBC official who was complaining that some of the form 34A’s were being brought down and were being replaced by other form 34A’s. The official was threatened by Mr. Marjan when he brought it up with him, with regard to the uploading of Form 34As.” added Tuju.

Tuju has refuted claims that he met Chebukati at 3:00 am saying the meeting took place at 4:00 am after many attempts to meet with the IEBC chairman during the day had failed.

He further stated that there was no way he could have made an offer to Chebukati and his Commissioners as they claim in the affidavit because there were 10 other people with different interests. Tuju calles on Chebukati to tell the truth.

“Commissioners Guliye and Molu were more of auctioneers than Commissioners of the IEBC. At one point, Guliye told me “nilikutumia watu, mbona hukuongea nao”… that left a lot to be desired.

I have a recording of the phone conversations I had with Chebukati and his team. If the DCI or any other investigating authority wants it, I am ready to give it to them.”
