Prayer and Fasting

Nehemiah 1:4
4 Now it came about when I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying [constantly] before the God of heaven.
One of the comments I keep hearing is this, “You Christians pray a lot but do very little!” Now though there may be some truth in that statement in some circumstances, I think many of us are yet to understand and tap into the power of prayer.
When Nehemiah heard the news, he had such a heavy burden in his heart and he knew where to take it. He took it to the Lord in prayer. The bible says he sat down and wept and mourned for days. He was fasting and praying not once, but constantly before the God of heaven.
Prayer and fasting and seeking the Lord whole-heartedly are key components of rebuilding the broken walls in one’s life. It’s amazing how things transpired after Nehemiah had taken the time to fast and pray. When the king inquired about his sadness, Nehemiah saw an opportunity and he took it. It was a bold and risky move and from the requests he made to the king you can tell that this was a man who had a plan in place. He knew what he needed to get the job done and this I believe he downloaded from God in his season of prayer and fasting.
Psalm 55:22 (AMP)
22 Cast your burden on the LORD [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).
Nehemiah did not try to do it alone. In fact looking at where he was, this seemed like such an impossible task to attempt but he took it to the Lord in prayer and something good and unbelievable came out of it.
Psalm 61:2 (AMP)
2 From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help].
The walls are broken and destroyed and your heart is heavily burdened, take it to the Lord in prayer. It is in that place of prayer that the impossible becomes possible.
Reflective Thoughts.
