Kenya National Police Service gets new Police Spokesperson

National Police Service (NPS) appoints Dr.Resila Atieno Onyango as the new police spokesperson to replace Bruno Shioso who now moves to National Police Service Training Collage in Kiganjo.

Resila becomes the second woman to ascend to the spokesperson position at the Police Service after Zipporah Mboroki who served in 2014.

Before her promotion, Resila, a Senior Superintendent, obtained a Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, USA in 2021 and was serving as the Deputy Director of Planning at the Office of the Inspector General of Police.

Shioso now moves to Kiganjo Training College to take up Commandant position that was held by Eng.Japheth Koome.

Koome, was recommended by President Ruto in September as the Inspector General nominee.

Appearing before a joint vetting panel of the Senate Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, and that of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affair at Parliament buildings on Tuesday, Koome who declared his net worth at Ksh. 89M, intimated that he has amassed the wealth from his farming practice, sacco shares, and the properties he owns.

“I have a share capital in the Police Sacco, I have vehicles, two tractors for farming, 37 acres of land in my rural home, two plots within the local shopping centre, my land in Nairobi where I have lived for 22 years and another two plots in Kitengela,” he said.

Koome has previously served as the Nairobi County Police Commander before being appointed as Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo where he currently serves.

If he gets approval, Koome will proceed to take the oath of office overseen by Chief Justice Martha Koome, and he will succeed Hillary Mutyambai who opted for terminal leave due to ill-health.
