Finishing Strong: Rest

Genesis 2:3 NKJV
Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Rest is important if we are to finish strong. When I think of rest I look at it from two perspectives. There is the physical rest that allows the body to regain it’s strength and not burn out because of fatigue. Then there is that which I would call the spiritual/ emotional rest that comes from trusting God fully and knowing that he will take care of us and that he has a good plan for our lives.
Just as God rested and required the children of Israel to do the same, we must take the time to rest. When we rest physically we give our bodies the time to be refreshed and energized. We also give our minds time to rest and thus we are able to think clearly and even up our creative juices. None of us is a super man, we cannot keep on going and going doing everything and never taking the time to rest. Infact, it is when we rest that we can truly reflect on how far we have come, celebrate the gains we have made and see the areas we need to make adjustments.
As much as physical rest is important, it can be of no value if we are full of worry and anxiety. We must lean to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. When things are not going the way we had hoped, we must learn to rest in God and his word believing that he is a faithful God who will do as he said he will do. That peace of mind and rest in him gives us the strength to remain faithful and keep going.
As we finish 2022 strong, take some time and rest as we prepare for the new season that God is leading us into.
Reflections.
How often do you take time away to just rest?
Are you always anxious and worried? Why?
Some people feel guilty when they rest because they must be in control all the time doing something. What does this attitude say about such a person?
